Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback, also called neurotherapy or EEG Biofeedback, is a type of biofeedback that uses electroencephalography (EEG) or hemoencephalography (HEG) to provide feedback about brain functioning in the present moment with the goal of training the brain to self-regulate.

Sensors are placed on the scalp to measure the electrical and/or thermal activity of the brain.  Through neurofeedback, brain waves or brain blood flow are measured and made visible or audible with the use of computer software so that these auditory and/or visual signals can be used as feedback about the brain activity. Parameters are set to either increase or decrease brainwave frequencies or blood flow to specific areas of the brain to improve functioning.
